How Minecraft Capes Are Distributed

Capes reach accounts through four distinct routes, and the route matters more than the design when you are judging rarity:

• Event capes — handed to physical attendees of MINECON. Fixed supply, permanently closed.
• Internal capes — Mojang employee, moderator, and translator capes tied to a role rather than a purchase.
• Promotional capes — issued alongside a product launch, partnership, or in-game event, usually via a redeemable code.
• Account-based capes — granted automatically for an account property, such as migrating a legacy account.

Only the promotional group produces redeemable codes that can legitimately change hands. Event and internal capes are bound to the account that received them, which is why any listing offering a MINECON cape "code" deserves immediate suspicion.

What the Owner Counts Actually Tell You

The spread across these 46 capes is enormous. The Migrator Cape sits at 5,968,538 owners. Thirteen capes have fewer than ten. That is a difference of roughly six orders of magnitude within the same cosmetic slot.

A few patterns worth internalising:

• Sixteen capes have under 100 owners. These are effectively uncirculated. If one appears for sale, the burden of proof is on the seller.
