Every Minecraft Dungeons II Cape: All 5 Capes and How to Get Each One

Mojang has published its cape and cosmetics guide for Minecraft Dungeons II, and it confirms five capes shipping with the sequel. The headline most sites will run is "five new Minecraft capes." That headline is wrong.

Only two of the five ever touch Minecraft. The Hero Cape and the Twisted Cape unlock in Java and Bedrock Edition. The Soul Cape, the Corrupted Creeper Cape and the Special Cape are Minecraft Dungeons II cosmetics — you wear them in a different game, and no Minecraft account will ever show them.

That distinction decides whether any of this is worth your money, so it goes first.

The Two Capes That Reach Minecraft

Hero Cape — the loyalty reward

A crimson drape with golden motifs, described by Mojang as cascading like molten rubies. It is the reward for having played the original Minecraft Dungeons before coming back for the sequel.

Twisted Cape — the pre-order bonus

Sculk-infused cloth themed on the Sift, the new dimension Dungeons II is built around. It comes with the Twisted Chicken pet and rift-outfitted Steve and Alex skins.

The gate here is simply the pre-order has to exist before launch. After September 29, 2026, this cape is closed permanently.

The Three Capes That Stay in Dungeons

These are real capes and they look good. They are also not Minecraft capes, and no amount of logging into Java will produce them.

Soul Cape — Deluxe Edition

Bundled with the Minecraft Dungeons II Deluxe Edition, alongside the Blub pet and dark-golden variants of Valorie, Kellen, Ren and Flores.

Worth stating plainly, because the Deluxe Edition is the most expensive way to buy the game: the Soul Cape does not appear in Minecraft. If your reason for upgrading to Deluxe was a cape for your Java account, that is not what you are buying. Full post.

Corrupted Creeper Cape — the event cape

A creeper face rendered as a soul-corrupted mob. Mojang's own copy calls it "Soulception". It is being distributed through promotional activities before and around launch, online and offline, starting in person at Gamescom.

Special Cape — no announced route

The fifth cape is listed with no acquisition method whatsoever. Mojang's writer openly admits to improvising the description to fill the space. All that is confirmed is that it exists. Full post.

The Corrupted Creeper Cape Is the Gamescom Cape

These were reported all week as two different capes. They are one.

Mojang teased a creeper cape on the Minecraft Instagram story on August 25, pulled the post, then reposted it on August 26 branded as Dungeons II. The Dungeons II article, out the same day, calls the same cape the Corrupted Creeper Cape. The Minecraft Wiki now files both names as a single entry, and /w/Gamescom_Cape redirects to it.

The practical consequence matters more than the naming:

Because the first announcement went out on the Minecraft channel without naming a game, a lot of people came away thinking a new Java and Bedrock cape was being handed out at Gamescom. It is a Dungeons II cape. It will not appear on your Minecraft account.

The Mistake That Will Cost People Capes

Every one of these capes hangs on one Microsoft account.

Dungeons I, Dungeons II and Minecraft: Java/Bedrock all have to be the same account. Mojang calls this out twice in their own announcement, which tells you how often it goes wrong. Couch co-op on a friend's console is fine — but you have to sign in as yourself, not play on their profile.

The second mistake is order of operations. For both the Hero and Twisted Capes, the cape appears in Dungeons II first. Only once you can see and equip it there does logging into Minecraft grant it. People who check Java first, see nothing, and assume they were skipped are checking too early.

Where These Sit Among Minecraft Capes

The Hero and Twisted Capes are the first Minecraft capes tied to a separate game purchase or another game's playtime in a long while. Most recent capes have been event drops — the Crafter Cape at TwitchCon Europe, the Builder Cape via Twitch and TikTok, the MCC 15th Year Cape through Noxcrew's anniversary server.

That changes their scarcity profile. A Twitch drop is capped by attention; a cross-game loyalty reward is capped by how many people owned the first Dungeons and return for the sequel. Nobody knows that number yet, which is why every rarity estimate you see for these capes right now — including ours — is provisional.
