So the honest answer to "how much does a Minecraft cape cost" is a range, not a number: $2.50 to $699.99 depending on which cape you want, with most of the catalogue sitting under $20.

Why One Cape Costs $3 and Another Costs Hundreds

The usual explanation is rarity: fewer owners, higher price. Look at the table above and that story falls apart almost immediately.

What actually sets the price is how many unredeemed codes are still in circulation — which is a completely different question from how many players own the cape. Every cape sorts into one of three supply states:

Codes still being issued. The Minecraft Experience Cape is still handed out at the touring exhibition, and the Moonlight Trail Cape is still obtainable. Supply keeps trickling in, so prices stay tethered.

Window closed, codes finite. The Copper, Menace, Home, Builder, Purple Heart and Follower's capes all came from promotions that have ended. No new codes will ever be created. What is left is what is left, and it only goes down as people redeem.

Never a code at all. MINECON capes, Mojang employee capes, translator capes. These were applied straight to accounts. There is no code, there never was, and no amount of money can legitimately buy one. If you see a MINECON cape for sale, what is actually being sold is somebody's account — which breaks Minecraft's terms and can be clawed back at any time.

Rarity sets the ceiling. Code supply sets the price.

The Follower's Cape Breaks the Pattern — Here Is Why

The clearest proof that owner count is not the driver sits right in our own catalogue, and it is worth pointing at rather than glossing over.

The Follower's Cape has 441,892 confirmed owners. The Minecraft Experience Cape has 40,822 — roughly one tenth as many. On a pure rarity model the Experience Cape should be the expensive one by a wide margin. It is not. The Follower's Cape costs substantially more.

The reason is supply, not scarcity. Follower's Cape codes were earned by watching Minecraft TikTok LIVE streams during a two-week window in May 2024. That window shut, and the pool of unredeemed codes has been draining ever since. The Experience Cape, meanwhile, is still being handed out to people walking through the exhibition — fresh codes keep entering the market.

Half a million people own the Follower's Cape. Almost none of them have a spare code. That is what you are paying for.

What You Should Expect to Pay

Under $10. Builder, Copper, Menace, Home. Broadly distributed promotional capes with codes still reasonably easy to source. If you want a cape on your account and you are not chasing a specific look, start here — the price difference between these and no cape at all is a couple of coffees.

$10 to $100. Purple Heart, Minecraft Experience. Recognisable capes with genuine stories behind them and supply that is thinning but not gone. This is the band most collectors actually buy in.

Over $100. Follower's, Moonlight Trail, Crafter. Capes where the code supply is close to exhausted or the distribution was tiny to begin with. The Crafter Cape sits at the top: about 5,500 confirmed owners, handed out only to TwitchCon Europe attendees who collected three emerald stickers across the show floor in May 2026. It was the first convention-exclusive Minecraft cape since MINECON 2016.

Prices That Should Make You Close the Tab

Four things should end a purchase immediately.

A MINECON cape at any price. Covered above — it does not exist as a code. The listing is an account sale wearing a costume.

A price far below the table above. Codes have a floor set by what it costs to source them. A Crafter Cape at $40 is not a bargain, it is a code that is already redeemed, invalid, or about to be charged back by whoever really paid for it.

A seller who wants your Microsoft login. Redemption takes place on minecraft.net, signed into your own account, by you. Nobody legitimate needs your credentials — the redemption process takes about two minutes and you do all of it yourself.

No stated policy for a dead code. Codes occasionally fail. What matters is what happens next. Ours is written down on the verification page: we replace the code, and if we cannot source a replacement you get a full refund.

What the Money Actually Buys

A cape code is unusually durable as game purchases go. Once redeemed it is bound to your Microsoft account permanently — it does not expire, cannot be revoked, and carries no subscription. It renders on both Java and Bedrock Edition, visible to everyone on Hypixel, 2b2t, or any vanilla server. You can toggle it on and off from the in-game skin menu whenever you like.
