The Twisted Cape is a sculk-themed pre-order bonus that also unlocks on Java and Bedrock. There is no redemption deadline — the gate is the launch date itself, September 29, 2026, and physical pre-orders have an extra step that will strand people.
The Twisted Cape is the pre-order bonus for Minecraft Dungeons II, and one of only two capes from that game that also unlocks in Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Edition.
It is also the cape with the tightest window, because its gate is not a redemption deadline you can plan around — it is the launch date. September 29, 2026. After that, no route exists.
What the Twisted Cape Is
Cloth themed on the Twisted Warden, the sculk-infused horror the sequel builds around, and on the Sift — the uncharted dimension Dungeons II sends you into. Mojang pitches it as the mantle for players who want to sculk around striking terror into hostile mobs. Mojang's render shows a bone-pale blade running down a near-black navy field, with sculk teal creeping up from the hem.

Mojang's official render of the Twisted Cape — a bone-pale blade down a near-black field, with sculk-teal creeping up from the hem.
It arrives as part of a three-item pre-order bundle:
- The Twisted Cape — the only part that reaches Minecraft
- The Twisted Chicken — a soul-infused pet, Dungeons II only
- Steve and Alex hero skins — rift-outfitted, Dungeons II only
Only the cape crosses over. The pet and skins stay in Dungeons II.
How to Get It — Digital Pre-Order
Pre-order Minecraft Dungeons II before September 29, 2026
Any platform. Pre-orders opened in early June 2026 and the window runs to September 28 — the day before launch. The order simply has to be placed before the game goes live.
After launch, sign into Dungeons II with your Microsoft account
Then confirm the pre-order items were actually granted. Do not assume — check that the cape is there.
Log into Minecraft: Java or Bedrock on the same account
Confirm the Twisted Cape has been acquired. It becomes equippable from the in-game cape selector.
Same Microsoft account, every stepCritical
Pre-order, Dungeons II login, and Minecraft login all have to be the same Microsoft account. Mojang flags this explicitly — and there is no process to move a cape between accounts afterwards.
How to Get It — Physical Pre-Order
This is where people will get stranded, because there is an extra step before the steps above.
Find the code in the game package
Physical copies ship with a code card in the box.
Redeem it on your platform store
- Xbox — xbox.com/redeem
- Nintendo — ec.nintendo.com/redeem
- PlayStation — open the PlayStation Store, click your profile, select Redeem Code
Then do the normal in-game steps
Sign into Dungeons II, confirm the pre-order items, then log into Java or Bedrock.
If you bought a physical copy and skipped the platform-store redemption, nothing downstream will work — the in-game confirmation has nothing to confirm. Check the box.
The Deadline Is Not What People Think
There is no "redeem by" date on this cape. That sounds generous and is actually stricter.
Most Minecraft capes have a redemption window that runs past the event — the Builder Cape drop ran two weeks, and the Twitch restock pushed its deadline out further still. The Crafter Cape had a June 30 expiry that Mojang never actually enforced.
The Twisted Cape works differently. There is nothing to redeem late, because the qualifying action is the purchase, and purchases stop qualifying the moment the game is out. Once September 29, 2026 passes, buying Dungeons II gets you the game and no cape.
If you are on the fence about the game, the cape decision has to be made before launch — not after reviews land.
Twisted vs Hero: Which Should You Care About?
Both reach Minecraft. They cost very different things.
| Twisted Cape | Hero Cape | |
|---|---|---|
| Requirement | Pre-order Dungeons II | Played Dungeons I, log into Dungeons II |
| Cost | Full game price, up front | Free if you own both games |
| Gate | Launch, Sep 29 2026 | Dec 31, 2026 |
| Reaches Minecraft | ✅ | ✅ |
If you were buying Dungeons II anyway, pre-ordering is a free cape. If you were not, the Twisted Cape is the entire price of a game — and the Hero Cape gets you a Minecraft cape on much easier terms.
Likely Rarity
No owner counts exist and will not until well after launch. Directionally, though, the Twisted Cape should end up rarer than the Hero Cape: pre-orderers are a strict subset of players, and the Hero Cape's pool is everyone who ever played the first Dungeons.
We have it provisionally tagged uncommon in the encyclopedia, matching the Hero Cape, and will separate them once real numbers land. Treat every rarity figure published about these capes before October 2026 as a guess — including ours.
For context on how cape rarity actually gets measured, see Minecraft cape rarity ranked.
Bottom Line
- Buying Dungeons II anyway? Pre-order. The cape is free at that point.
- Not buying? The cape alone is not worth the game's price — go get the Hero Cape instead.
- Physical copy? Redeem the box code first, or nothing else works.
- Deadline is September 29, 2026, and it is the purchase date, not a redemption date.
