Every Minecraft cape you can still add to your account, ranked on design, rarity and how it looks in game, with live prices and owner counts for each.
Minecraft has dozens of capes, but most of them are locked to the accounts that received them. Only a handful can still be added to your account. This ranking covers every one of those, judged on four things:
- Design: how good the artwork is, and how well it reads from across a server
- Rarity: confirmed owner counts, so you know how many players share it
- Elytra: whether the cape gets its own elytra art, or just stretches across the wings
- Value: what you get for the price, from pocket-money capes to collector pieces
Every cape below works on Java and Bedrock. Prices and stock are pulled live from our shop, so they're current whenever you read this.

1. Moonlight Trail Cape

The best Minecraft cape you can get in 2026. A diamond beacon pyramid fires its beam into a starlit night sky, in icy blues on a near-black field. It looks expensive because it is rare: Mojang handed it only to people who walked Minecraft Experience: Moonlight Trail, an outdoor after-dark adventure that opened in Buenos Aires in May 2026. Mojang even classifies it Legendary in Bedrock's Character Creator.
With just 7,188 confirmed owners, almost nobody you meet will be wearing it. And unlike most rare capes, it's beautiful too. Read more in the Moonlight Trail Cape history.
2. Crafter Cape

The rarest Minecraft cape you can actually buy. The Crafter Cape was handed out at TwitchCon Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, to attendees who collected three emerald stickers on the show floor, plus a small number of codes given to creators to pass on. That made it the first convention cape since MINECON 2016.
The art is an iron pickaxe across crafting table planks, the same design as the Builder Cape with the pickaxe pointing up. Same artwork, wildly different scarcity: the Builder Cape has about 26 times as many owners. If you want the cape that says "I was there", this is it. See the Crafter Cape history.
3. Minecraft Experience Cape

The best design in the mid-rarity range. Mojang's Craig Leigh drew it after Two-Face from the Batman comics: one half villager, one half zombie villager, on deep purple. It's instantly readable, a little unsettling, and unlike any other cape.
It went to visitors of Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue, Mojang's touring exhibition, so owners had to turn up in person. That keeps it to 40,822 owners: rare enough to stand out, without the price of the top two. More in the Minecraft Experience Cape history.
4. Purple Heart Cape

The most eye-catching cape on a server. A bold purple heart on a white field gives it the strongest contrast of any cape here, and you can spot it from the other side of a lobby. It was a 2024 Twitch drop that needed 15 minutes of watching, and it became one of the most talked-about capes of the year.
It's common, with 460,502 owners, but it's popular for a reason. If you want people to notice your cape, start here. See the Purple Heart Cape history.
5. Aurora Cape

The best value in the shop right now. The newest cape on this list, released with Minecraft Dungeons II in September 2026. It's a pastel sky running from teal through lavender and pink to a pale lime hem, scattered with white star pixels. We measured every cape texture in our library, and this is the brightest cape Mojang has ever made. Its elytra is redrawn too, with pointed, mint-edged wing tips.
It was a Twitch and TikTok watch-time drop. The watch window runs until October 14, 2026, and every Aurora code, earned or bought, has to be redeemed by October 31, 2026. Owner counts aren't in yet, but a two-week drop open to everyone won't stay rare. Buy it because you love the look. Full details are in our Aurora Cape guide.
6. Menace Cape

The best elytra of any cape here. The cape shows the Obsidian Gateway from A Minecraft Movie, a glowing purple portal against a red Nether backdrop. Equip elytra and it changes completely: the wings carry a portrait of the movie's Steve, as played by Jack Black. It's the most fun reveal in the cape collection.
It was a TikTok LIVE drop during the film's March–April 2025 promotion, and has 362,227 owners. See the Menace Cape history.
7. Follower's Cape

The cleanest design of the lot. A white Creeper face on black, with red and blue stripes down the edges in TikTok's colours. It came from Minecraft's 15th anniversary TikTok LIVE campaign in May 2024, and reached Java Edition that July.
It's simple, graphic and still looks modern two years on. It has 441,892 owners. See the Follower's Cape history.
8. Home Cape

The best of the movie capes. The Menace Cape's twin: the Earth portal from A Minecraft Movie, on a grass base under a bright blue sky. It shares the Jack Black Steve elytra, so you get the same reveal in a lighter, sunnier colourway.
It was the Twitch half of the same 2025 movie promotion, and is rarer than Menace, with 229,695 owners. See the Home Cape history.
9. Copper Cape

The best budget pick. Chiseled copper that oxidizes as it runs down the cape, from fresh orange at the shoulders to weathered teal at the hem. The elytra keeps the theme with copper grates. It's subtle, earthy and very Minecraft.
It came from the Copper Cape Quest in October 2025, which you could complete by watching streams, placing a copper golem statue in Bedrock, or attending The Copper Crown event in San Diego. It has 215,921 owners. See the Copper Cape history.
10. Builder Cape

The cheapest way to a great-looking cape. The worldwide twin of the Crafter Cape: the same iron pickaxe on crafting table planks, with the pickaxe flipped. It was revealed at Minecraft Live in May 2026 and given away through a two-week stream drop.
With 144,987 owners it's the most common cape here. But it's still a new, clean design, and the easiest way to get Crafter-style artwork on your back. See the Builder Cape history.
How to Choose Your Cape
- Want rarity? Go for the Crafter or Moonlight Trail Cape. Both have under 7,500 owners, because they were handed out at in-person events.
- Want people to notice? The Purple Heart Cape has the boldest contrast, and the Aurora Cape is the brightest texture in the game.
- Fly a lot? Pick a cape with its own elytra art: Menace, Home or Aurora.
- On a budget? The Builder, Copper and Home Capes sit at the bottom of the price list and still look sharp.
Not sure what a fair price is? We break down why some capes cost a few dollars and others hundreds in how much a Minecraft cape costs.
The Legendary Capes You Can't Buy
Search "best Minecraft capes" and you'll see the legends: MINECON capes, Mojang staff capes, the Migrator cape. They're iconic, but none of them was ever issued as a code. They were attached straight to the accounts that earned them, so nobody can sell you one. Any listing that offers them is really selling a whole account, which breaks Minecraft's terms and can be taken back.
If you're curious how they compare, see Minecraft cape rarity ranked by owner count or the complete list of every Minecraft cape.
