The cape Mojang teased for Gamescom and the Minecraft Dungeons II Corrupted Creeper Cape are the same item — announced twice, a day apart, which is why half the internet reported two. Here is what it actually is, and the part that will disappoint Java players.
If you have been following this cape, you have probably seen it reported as two different capes. It is one.
Mojang teased a creeper-faced cape on the Minecraft Instagram story on August 25, 2026, the day before Gamescom opened. That post was taken down. On August 26 it went back up — this time branded explicitly as Minecraft Dungeons II. The Dungeons II capes article, published alongside it, lists the same cape as the Corrupted Creeper Cape.
The Minecraft Wiki now files both names as a single entry. So does this post.
What It Actually Is
A charged creeper face — the light-blue variant that appears when lightning strikes a creeper — glowing pale cyan and white against deep navy fabric. Mojang's copy for it reads:
Fearsome and fashionable. Like staring into the abyssal soul of a soul-corrupted mob. Soulception!

Mojang's official render. The face glows pale cyan on deep navy — charged-creeper blue, not the green a normal creeper would give you.
Charged creepers are among the rarest things you can stumble across in survival Minecraft, which makes the motif a deliberate fit for a limited event cosmetic.
The Part That Disappoints People
It does not work in Minecraft: Java or Bedrock Edition.
This is worth stating early and plainly, because the first announcement went out on the Minecraft Instagram channel and a lot of people reasonably concluded they were getting a Minecraft cape. Mojang's Dungeons II article names exactly two capes crossing into Java and Bedrock — the Hero Cape and the Twisted Cape. This is not one of them.
If you queued at Gamescom for a cape on your Java account, the card in your hand unlocks a Minecraft Dungeons II cosmetic. That is not a mistake on your part — the first announcement genuinely did not say so.
How It Was Handed Out
Physical cape cards at Gamescom 2026
Koelnmesse, Cologne, August 26–30, 2026. Cards were distributed at the Xbox booth in Hall 7, with a redemption code printed on the back and a QR code pointing at Dungeons II pre-orders. The card art carried renders of Kellen with a war hammer and Valorie with a sword, both wearing the cape.
An online route — promised, not announced
Mojang's teaser explicitly said "stay tuned to learn how to unlock it online too." The Dungeons II article repeats that the cape will appear in "various promotional activities before and around launch, both online and offline." Nothing further has been announced.
The codes outlive the show by a long wayDec 31, 2027
Codes printed on the Gamescom cards run to roughly December 31, 2027. That is over a year of runway, and it is unusually generous — the Crafter Cape cards from TwitchCon carried a one-month expiry that Mojang never even enforced.
Why the Two-Cape Confusion Happened
Worth understanding, because it is the reason so much coverage is wrong:
| What people saw | What it was | |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 25 | Creeper cape teased on the Minecraft Instagram, no game named | The Corrupted Creeper Cape, announced ambiguously |
| — | Post removed | — |
| Aug 26 | Reposted with Dungeons II branding | Same cape, correctly labelled |
| Aug 26 | Dungeons II article lists a "Corrupted Creeper Cape" | Same cape again, third framing |
Three announcements, one cape, and only the last two made the game clear. We originally read these as two separate capes ourselves and said so — that was wrong, and this post replaces that reading.
Where It Sits in the Dungeons II Set
Five capes shipped with Dungeons II. Only two of them are Minecraft capes.
| Cape | Route | In Minecraft? |
|---|---|---|
| Hero Cape | Play Dungeons I → log into Dungeons II by Dec 31, 2026 | ✅ Java + Bedrock |
| Twisted Cape | Pre-order before Sep 29, 2026 | ✅ Java + Bedrock |
| Soul Cape | Buy the Deluxe Edition | ❌ Dungeons II only |

Before You Buy a Code
Physical cards with printed codes exist and are already changing hands. That is a genuine market, unlike most "upcoming cape" listings — but check what you are buying.
A Gamescom card unlocks a cosmetic in Minecraft Dungeons II. If your goal is a cape on your Java or Bedrock account, this code will not do it, and a listing calling it a "Minecraft Gamescom cape" is describing it the way Mojang's own first post did — misleadingly, if not deliberately.
If a Minecraft cape is what you actually want, these are the ones with codes in circulation today:
